5 Tips To Improve Your Professional Worth During Your Internship

Securing an internship during your MBA program is a great deal of success! It is the first stepping stone for MBA students into gaining managerial experience. There is a lot of hard work that goes into taking up an internship and it's an everyday learning experience.

Gaining an internship requires some effort and preparation; when you succeed, take some time to recognise your success.

Along with developing your hard and soft skills while working, there's a chance you'll be extended a job offer.

According to a recent survey done by one of the students at one of the management colleges in Kolkata, it was found that 43.5% of interns received a job offer after completing their internship.

When you are in your internship tenure you must look for ways in which you can improve your skills as well as your professional worth, in order to secure your future goals. Here are five ways you can do it.

1. Setting Objectives Of Your Internship

Knowing what is required of you is crucial in any employment, and this is also true for your internship. Setting clear objectives with your company will give your internship direction and significance while preventing unneeded irritation or disagreement.

Here are a few examples of expectations and goals you might wish to talk about:

    • Your desired areas of expertise and the specific tasks or projects that need your assistance.
    • How you'll ask for advice or clarification when necessary?
    • Where to look for resources and solutions when possible?
    • How your company will provide performance feedback to you?
    • How to inform others about delays or, if necessary, change deadlines for a project?

2. Work Closely On Your Tasks

Ask considerate questions, gather information, and then look for further details to enable considerate follow-up inquiries.

When given instructions, pay attention and make notes. Asking questions after conducting a preliminary study using business resources demonstrates effort.

3. Take Ownership Of Your Mistakes and Look Towards Fixing Them

You're allowed to make errors throughout your internship. Making errors is a necessary aspect of learning.

When things don't go as planned, the important thing is to accept responsibility. Faster resolution and the ability for people to regard you as a leader will come from taking responsibility and outlining potential solutions.

4. Make Conversations Your Best Friend!

Your internship is an excellent chance to begin networking. After all, the individuals you meet here can end up becoming friends, business partners, or even mentors in the future.

Everyone finds it difficult to start a conversation with a stranger, but there are basic icebreakers that you may use, like What do you believe today that you didn't imagine you would have earlier in your career? Or What is the best piece of counsel you have ever received or wish you had at the beginning of your career?

5. Look For Growth Opportunities

Onboarding meetings and training may be part of your initial days and weeks. Utilize any available training opportunity to pick up new knowledge and ask questions.

Find new sources of information on your own if there is no official training available. This is a unique chance to learn about an organization's internal operations.

Approach each hour of your internship with enthusiasm and interest to get the most out of it.

The above-mentioned ways are just a few examples of how you can improve your professional worth during your internship.

Not every internship will immediately result in a job offer. It's a good idea to keep in touch if the business and the job you've done interest you so that you come to mind first if an opportunity arises.

Send handwritten letters or messages of appreciation to the individuals you worked with when your internship comes to an end. Mention the projects you both worked on, thank them for any advice they may have given, and leave your contact information.
